KAYAK RENTALS
No Experience Necessary!

When you rent a kayak from Lake George Kayak
Company you’ll be getting more then a boat-we
provide basic instruction, life vests, paddles,
and guidance on the best places to paddle. To
keep things simple we launch our boats into the
water on location so you won’t need to worry
about carrying a kayak around or paying a
parking fee, however the option to car-top your
kayak and launch elsewhere is always open.
Beginners Beware! Kayaking is a
dangerously fun and easy activity recommended
for the whole family regardless of experience.
Casual paddling may lead to a full on Kayaking
addiction.
Our staff at the boathouse provides personal
attention and expertise to insure the comfort
and safety of our customers. Kayaking doesn’t
require strength or catlike reflexes, just
patience and finesse. Over the years we’ve had
passengers as young as 1 and paddlers well into
their 80’s.
Bring a Towel! Plan on getting a little
wet while kayaking. We recommend quick-dry
clothing like athletic shorts or a bathing suit
and a pair of sandals or flip-flops. We provide
on site changing facilities and a restroom for
our customers.
Don’t Forget Lunch If you’re planning on
kayaking for a few hours pack a lunch and have a
picnic on one of the many public islands on Lake
George. Kayaking is a physical activity and we
also encourage you to bring a water bottle to
stay hydrated. If you want to get a bite to eat
before or after kayaking grab a sandwich from
one of the many local deli’s and eat at our
picnic tables overlooking the water.
There
are 170 Islands on Lake George, 44 of them state
owned and available for public use. The camping
islands have a total of 387 campsites, and there
are
116 picnic/day use
sites
on 8 islands. Picnic sites have grills,
fireplaces & picnic tables. Nine have picnic
shelters which you can reserve for a larger
picnic and they are ideal for parties. You need
to
reserve the islands
for day use or for camping
and you can do so visiting
www.reserveamerica.com.

LESSONS

Kayaking lessons are a
great way to improve paddling efficiency, build
confidence, and become a safer paddler. Whether
you want to learn how to kayak before purchasing
one, or already own one and want to improve your
skills, our teachers can work with you to build
a lesson that will meet your specific needs.
Our teachers
will spend two hours with you honing your
paddling technique and teaching you methods that
will allow you to continue to improve every time
you paddle.
The Basics
In order to
become a capable kayaker you’ll need a solid
foundation of basic skills to build off of. How
to properly sit in a kayak and hold a paddle are
so basic people often take them for granted, but
before you ever learn how to roll a kayak you’ll
need to learn these skills.
The Forwards Stroke
Your
forward stroke says a lot about how you paddle.
Are you stable and comfortable? Does your boat
turn the opposite direction every time you take
a stroke? Will you tire out after an hour of
paddling? Are you wasting energy with a choppy
stroke? We work with our pupils to make sure
that your forwards stroke helps you to remain
comfortable, stable, and unstrained so you can
spend more time enjoying the water and less time
struggling to stay straight.
Rescue Techniques
Even the most
experienced kayaker flips over sometimes but not
everyone is able to roll a kayak upright again.
But the fear of getting a little wet shouldn’t
keep anyone from kayaking. With the proper
technique a flipped and waterlogged kayak can be
upright, dry, and reentered in a matter of
moments. Let us teach you how in the calm waters
in front of our boathouse so you have to
competence to feel comfortable in rough weather.
We teach multi-boat and single boat rescue
techniques.
The Roll
Learning to
roll is an advanced technique most people devote
entire lessons to. The technique requires some
basic paddling ability and a willingness to get
wet. Like riding a bicycle, once you have the
motion memorized it will stay with you for a
long time. I
